Davor Konjikušić — Highway

Davor Konjikušić — Highway

Exploring the spatial traces of the former “Brotherhood and Unity” highway, today’s A3 motorway, Davor Konjikušić reads the history of work, ownership, political systems and socio-economic relations.
The highway represents a metaphor for the story about society, work and the worker, as well as a space in which all political and economic antagonisms of today’s society are visible. By intervening in archive materials, through censoring the gaze and intentional inconsistency in its erasure, the author gives the actors the power to return the gaze and question the imposed historical discontinuity and their own social position. By using photography and interventions in contemporary landscape, he introduces his own viewpoint, constructing the questions concerning a brighter or darker past. Through wall papers, he tackles the most important moments in the highway’s history, thus creating an open space for new and different readings.

The artist talk with Davor Konjikušoć about the project Highway will be held in gallery Sira of the Academy of Fine Arts on September 8th at 3pm.

Davor Konjikušić was born in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 1979.
