Award ceremony — Marina Viculin Award for contemporary Croatian photography

Photography Association Organ Vida founded the award in 2017 in order to emphasize its commitment to creation of new artworks that enrich our society.

A new Award for Croatian artists for creativity in the medium of photography will carry the name of the recently deceased, prominent local art historian, curator and former director of the Gallery Klovićevi Dvori, Marina Viculin — a person who greatly contributed to the Croatian art scene through her promotion of photography and who changed the social perception and evaluation of photography as a medium.

The Marina Viculin Award will be annually awarded for the purpose of recognition of the work of artists with outstanding achievements in Croatian photography. Photography Association Organ Vida founded the award in 2017 in order to emphasize its commitment to creation of new artworks that enrich our society. Financial support and award are aimed at improving the development of artists and encouragement to their future work.

A new approach to the medium, outstanding talent, innovative photographic language, artistic quality, relevance of topics, as well as uniqueness of expression will be the main criteria that will govern the professional international jury in assessing the best work. The cash amount of 25,000 HRK will be awarded to one author or artistic collective as decided by an international jury for their chosen art project and exhibition presentation during the International Photography Festival Organ Vida 2018.

An international jury board of local and international professionals in the field of visual arts will decide on the awards:
Marina Paulenka, photographer and artistic director of the Festival Organ Vida
Lea Vene, art historian and curator
Sandra Vitaljić, photographer and professor at the Department of Photography of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb
Leonida Kovač, art historian, curator, theorist and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb
Corinne Noordenbos, photographer and long-time educator and consultant in the field of photography (Netherlands)
Miha Colner, independent curator and critic (Slovenia)
Walter Seidl, curator, writer and artist (Austria)

During one year of the project grant, the winner is obliged to present their work in progress twice to which the jury will provide comments and guidance. Within the amount to be awarded as a prize, Organ Vida will provide gallery space for the completed work and technical support for performance and set up and print a catalog. In addition, Organ Vida will give full support to the selected artist in the promotion and distribution of his / her project on the international photography scene.
